Small Group Study:
We must fear God not men (Matthew 10:28). That means doing what pleases God must be our top priority. God is our Lord. His opinion and authority is ultimate, higher than that of the government, a boss, parents, or friends. Though we feel pressure to please the non-Christian society around us, we must fear God and not men.

Read how Jesus maintained a bold confession of the truth before a powerful man, Pilate. Read John 18:33-38 & 19:9-11

On the other hand, Pilate feared men more than God. Despite the fact that Pilate knew Jesus was innocent (19:6), sought to release Jesus (19:12), and was afraid of him (19:8), Pilate ultimately caved to pressure and fear of the crowd. Read John 19:12-16

From whom do you feel the most pressure: non-Christian society, family, co-workers, bosses, or friends?

What kinds of pressures are you facing? Are these contrary to God’s will?

Recently, are you fearing God or men?

Read Galatians 1:10

It is impossible to please everyone and make everyone happy all the time. In order to please one person we will displease another. In saying “yes” to one person we say “no” to many others. What do you need to do in your life right now to please Jesus?
